Promotion vs. Retention

Case Description: When holding a student back a year may mean she drops out of school, should her teachers promote her to the next grade level - even if they don't believe she's mastered the skills she'll need to succeed? "Promotion vs. Retention" centers around a hardworking 8th grade student who, in spite of the impressive gains she made during the school year, doesn't have the skills she needs to succeed in high school. Although her teachers are optimistic her work ethic will help her at the next level, they're far from sure work ethic alone will be enough for her.
