Pre-Conference Workshop: EdEthics in Action: May 4th, 2023

pre-conference_workshop_flyerThank you for joining us for the Educational Ethics Pre-Conference Workshop: EdEdthics in Action at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

This daylong workshop, led by Professor Meira Levinson and the EdEthics team, jumpstarted the Educational Ethics: A Field-Launching Conference, and highlighted normative case studies, which are “richly described, realistic accounts of complex ethical dilemmas that arise within practice or policy contexts, in which protagonists must decide among courses of action, none of which is self-evident as the right one to take” (Levinson and Fay, 2016, pp. 5‒6).

During this workshop,  participants spent the morning engaging in case study discussions led by EdEthics facilitators, followed by conversations with the authors about the dilemmas raised in their cases. This segment featured case study authors from around the globe with a range of highly relevant and nuanced themes of educational ethics.

In the afternoon segment, participants chose between two panel discussions exploring the uses of normative case studies and other deliberation strategies in either research or practice (both K-12 and higher ed). These panels feature researchers, doctoral candidates, district leaders, and educators sharing their own experiences with dilemmas in education.
