Pre-Conference Workshop: Teaching Social Justice

Teaching Social Justice - Engaging Anti-Racist and Anti-LGBTQ+ Laws in Education with Normative Case Study and Authentic Dialogues

AME Fort Worth, TX, USA October 26-28, 2023

The purpose of this workshop is to guide participants (administrators, practitioners, and researchers) through the practices of Authentic Dialogue and Normative Case Study using exemplary content regarding US laws that restrict the educational content of various anti-racist and pro-LGBTQ+ curricula. The goal is to substantially add to participants’ educational repertoires for teaching sensitive social justice material. Regardless of personal points of view, the workshop offers in-depth opportunities to explore one’s own and others’ perspectives and to generate ideas related to teaching current issues of social justice in K-12 classrooms. Participants will learn two educational strategies from leaders; however, sharing among the group will reveal others and enrich all of us. Pre-registered participants will receive a packet of material prior to the workshop. We encourage educational researchers and intervention evaluators as well as interventionists and practitioners to join us.
